International Mobile Roaming
International
roaming is the facility that allows you to use your mobile phone abroad. In
order for this to happen, your mobile operator will have entered into agreements
with mobile networks abroad. When you use your phone abroad, your mobile phone
establishes a connection with a local mobile network. The foreign network
provider sends a bill to your operator (known as a wholesale charge) for your
usage. Having added its costs, your operator then charges you for your usage
whilst abroad. International roaming agreements are quite complex and wholesale
charges can vary depending on a wide range of factors.
When you are abroad and your phone has established a connection with a local
mobile network, you can make and receive calls and texts just like at home
except the charges will differ significantly in price and you will be charged
for other services such as receiving calls, accessing your voicemail and contacting
customer care.
Before you go abroad, you should review your operator's website to read the
information on roaming charges or contact your operators customer care
